Attendance

At Willow Tree Primary School we are committed to raising the attainment of the pupils at our school. To ensure all pupils achieve their potential it is vital that they attend school daily. This attendance page will give you all the information you might need about attendance at Willow Tree Primary School.

Our School day starts at 8.55 a.m. but Mrs Wilkinson will be ready on the yard to welcome you into school from 8:35am

We offer a Breakfast Club from 8.15 a.m. for just 50p a day to help support good attendance and punctuality.

If your child is too ill to attend school we would request that you phone school on the first day of their absence and also keep us informed of progress.  On your child’s return to school we would be grateful if you could provide any proof of illness obtained to enable authorisation of the absence.

If you wish to talk to someone about attendance please come into the school office to make an appointment with our Attendance Officer: Mrs Wilkinson.

Whole School Target: 95%

Together we can make it!

Did You Know?…..

If your child is 30 minutes late every day they miss 2 and a half hours a week. That works out at 4 days a term and 12 days a year!

If your child is between 5 and 16 years old and is a registered pupil at school, it is your legal responsibility to make sure they attend regularly.

If your child misses 1 day of school a week they miss 7 and a half weeks a year. This is more than half a terms learning!

Persistent Absentees

The Government classifies any pupil whose attendance drops below 90% as a Persistent Absentee. Parents are legally responsible for ensuring that their child attends school regularly. Once attendance drops below 90% the Local Authority are informed and parents may face a fixed penalty fine. Fines are charged per child and per parent. If a fine is not paid or attendance continues to decline then the Local Authority may take parents to court for prosecution. There are a range of sentencing outcomes for the court to impose on each responsible parent, including:

  • Fine of up to £2,500
  • Community based sentence
  • Three months imprisonment
  • Subject  to a Parenting Order – can be additional to other sentences
  • Costs may be awarded to the council

Where attendance at school drops below 95% school will issue you with a warning letter. Ensuring your child comes to school everyday and on time is the utmost importance.

What incentives we offer…

To encourage the children, we offer fun incentives for every child. Children are reward with:

  • Dojo points for good attendance
  • Weekly 100% attendance stickers
  • Being entered into a weekly raffle if they have 100% attendance for the week
