In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding is to be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE. Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
We are lucky enough to work collaboratively with Everton In The Community, we have a specialised coach who attends school two days a week and works alongside our staff to give our children the best P.E lessons possible. Our children are taught all the basic essential skills they need to be able to take part in competitive sports and games with a view to incorporating more of this competitive element next academic year.
Please let me introduce our Year 5 and Year 6 play leaders, Eliza, Liam, Lilly, Adam, Bobby, Rebecca, Ruben, Oscar and Maisey. The aim is for our play leaders to encourage and engage children in active play. As a school we don’t want to see children left out or alone during playtimes. The play leaders will actively be supporting all children to join in, by introducing different games to our children.
Our Everton in the Community coaches are skilled professionals who will teach our play leaders effective strategies in order to achieve this. They will be also work with our PE lead, Miss. Duck and the coaches to create an order for some extra equipment for the yard.
This half term we have developed the role to include year 5 children.
Our first meeting this half term included setting out expectations, roles and responsibilities.
During our last meeting the children discussed the types of games they were going to try to encourage others to play. They asked for help from the coaches to support them in how to do this.

On Friday 4th November, eight boys from year 5 and 6 attended a football tournament with other local primary schools. They were a credit to us and their families. Not only did they come 4th in the whole tournament but they demonstrated great effort, resilience and sportsmanship throughout.
Well done, Ruben, Stephen, Jack, Liam, George, Adam, Alfie and Henry!
