Building on the successes of the Teach Bolton programme, from September 2021 we are excited to be delivering School Direct PGCE QTS route to trainee teachers from our Teach Merseyside campus.  School-based, you will train in local schools gaining valuable practical experience from Day One.

We have been involved in School Direct school-based teacher training with the University of Cumbria from its very first year and we are proud to celebrate a 100% employment record for Teach Bolton students completing the School Direct Programme. For us, this is what School Direct is all about.

School Direct is a great pathway to become a teacher as you will be surrounded with expert support and guidance from your colleagues. Within our partnership schools you will meet newly qualified teachers, former School Direct trainees, National Leaders of Education, Specialist Leaders of Education and Outstanding teachers – all loaded with advice, support, experience and skills to kick start your teaching journey.

During your teacher training PGCE year, you will spent time in at least two placement schools. Our partnership of excellent primary schools enables you to experience a range of school settings with the added benefit of specialist subject teaching input from leading staff in the partnership. School Direct is the ideal opportunity to make your mark. You will build up teaching contacts throughout the year and form good impressions amongst your peers in readiness for that all important job interview, ready to secure your first teaching post as a Newly Qualified Teacher.

School Direct is a local initial teacher training model for local people. It offers a flexible alternative to a further year’s study away from home. Delivered in partnership with the University of Cumbria, the training comes to you, with all lectures and training taking place locally. The key features of our Teach Merseyside programme include:

  • Programme Leaders from our successful Teach North West team – quality and experience is assured
  • Team Induction Day
  • Peer working with a group of up to 15 School Direct trainees.
  • A focus on your personal learning journey. We care about you!
  • Typical week is 3 days in placement; 2 days taught sessions.
  • Three blocks of assessed placements where you will be in school Monday to Friday.
  • Experience in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
  • Training, mentoring and coaching from highly experienced classroom practitioners.
  • Guidance and support from dedicated programme mentors
  • PGCE modules delivered by University of Cumbria tutors
  • A strong focus on pedagogical understanding.
  • Successful completion leads to the award of PGCE and QTS awarded by University of Cumbria.
